Play Therapy

Play is a child's natural method of expression and way of making sense of the world. Play therapy helps children express feelings and experiences that may be difficult for them to communicate verbally. In play therapy sessions, toys are used like words and children use play to communicate at their own pace. Through this process, children can slowly adopt new methods of coping with and understanding their experiences. Research has shown that play therapy is an effective intervention for children ages 3-12.

Child & Adolescent Therapy

When faced with emotional and behavioral challenges, it is important that children and adolescents are provided with a comfortable, safe and welcoming space to discuss their concerns.  Dr. Webber utilizes a variety of techniques to help children and adolescents develop healthier coping strategies and build a life that is both meaningful and fulfilling. This includes, but is not limited to,  validation, acceptance, skill building, emotion regulation training and time management.

Social Skills Groups

Children who are neurodivergent often struggle with social anxiety, self-regulation, boundaries, and/or low self-esteem. We hold social skills groups that aim to embrace the unique ways that neurodiverse minds engage in the world with a focus on social-emotional well-being. Our groups focus on building self-esteem and confidence, creating friendships, and developing healthy boundaries through play.

Parent Training

Parenting can be both challenging and rewarding; however, being a parent does not come with a handbook.  Even the best parents could benefit from support and the opportunity to learn effective and positive parenting techniques. Additionally, parent participation in the therapeutic process is an integral part of the child’s success. Parenting skills training can both provide parents with strategies to manage difficult behaviors and improve the parent-child relationship. All parenting needs are different and Dr. Webber will help you learn effective parenting skills that are tailored to your family.

Family Therapy & Parent-Child Therapy

Relationship difficulties between various family members is often a result of child developmental or behavioral challenges. When this has occurred, tt is essential to improve communication skills and restore healthy ways of interacting. Family therapy provides family members with the opportunity to better understand and reconnect with one another  in a safe and protected space.

Advocacy & CPSE/CSE Guidance

In addition to supporting a challenging home situation, parents are expected to know how to navigate the complicated school system. Oftentimes children could be eligible for in-school support; however, parents are not always informed on how to obtain these services. Dr. Webber has extensive experience working within the school system, including working on multi-disciplinary teams consisting of speech-language therapists, occupational therapists and physical therapists.  She is well versed in the policies of the New York City school system and can assist parents’ ability to advocate for their child.

Educational Consultation

It is vital that all individuals working with children and adolescents with developmental and behavioral challenges do so in a consistent manner. When needed, Dr. Webber is available to consult with school personnel and other providers involved in the child’s care to ensure all involved are working together.

LGBTQ+

LGBTQ+ individuals are 2.5 times more likely to experience depression, anxiety and substance abuse in their lifetime. Therapy offers a space for children and teens to explore different areas of their lives, including sexuality and relationships. Having a therapist who is a LGBTQ+ ally ensures that therapy will help, rather than cause more harm. This is accomplished by nurturing and supporting authenticity and self-acceptance. Dr. Webber also works with parents who are learning to adapt to their children recently coming out.

Tele-therapy for parents and college students

Oftentimes when young adults are away at college they have limited access to counseling services. This being a stressful and transitional time in their lives makes it even more important to have access to therapy when they need. Dr. Webber offers counseling via video call for young adults who are away at college. She offers these clients a flexible schedule to accommodate their school schedule.

It is now common for both parents to be working full time and therefore it is not always possible for parents to come into the office for a weekly session. To accommodate the growing need for remote counseling, Dr. Webber offers parent training via video chat for families who are unable to come in OR who live in more rural areas with limited access to these services.
